DEAR MY LITTLE PRINCESS...

 

A WEEK AGO MY NINE YEAR OLD LITTLE PRINCESS STARTED HER PUBERTY AND NATURALY QUESTIONS ABOUT PUBERTY AND MANY OTHER GENERAL THINGS STARTED FLOWING FROM HER TO ME. I WAS WAY TOO COMFORTABLE IN ANSWERING ALL OF THEM ACCORDINGLY UNTIL SHE STARTED ASKING ME ABOUT DIFFERENT CAREER PATHS. IT WAS UNTIL SHE STARTED TELLING ME HOW MUCH INTEREST SHE HAS IN THE SHOWBIZ / ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY THAT REALITY HIT ME THAT MY LITTLE PRINCESS IS ACTUALLY GROWING UP AND WILL SOON BE EXPOSED TO THIS BIG BAD WORLD THAT MANY OTHER PARENTS’ LITTLE PRICESSES LIKE HER FIND THEMSELVES IN.

 

MY DAUGHTER’S CAREER INTEREST REMINDED ME OF VERY SAD STORIES OF HOW INNOCENT AND VULNERABLE WOMEN FALL PREY TO SELFISH AND BRUTAL MEN WHO ARE BOSSES IN DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS, WHO ABUSE THEIR POWERS FOR SEXUAL FAVOURS AND HOW THEY WILL SOON BE MAKING THEIR ADVANCES AT MY DAUGHTER. I PAUSED FOR A WHILE BEFORE ANSWERING MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE MANY STORIES OF VICTIMS OF THIS BRUTAL AND ILLEGAL TREND WHO CONFIDED IN ME CAME FLOWING THROUGH MY MIND. AS IF THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ONE OF THE VICTIMS WHO WAS LISTENING TO MY INTERVIEW ON SAFM, WHO DURING OUR CONVERSATION PLEADED WITH ME TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ABUSE OF WOMEN BY THESE POWERFUL MEN SO AS TO HELP ENLIGHTEN OTHER WOMEN OUT THERE.

 

I THEN STARTED HAVING AN INTERNAL CONVERSATION WITH MYSELF IN WHICH I CRAFTED A WAY TO GIVE ADVICE AND EMPOWER MY LITTLE PRINCESS ON WHAT SHE MUST EXPECT OUT THERE AS SHE WILL BE GOING AROUND TRYING TO CLIMB THE LEADER(LADDER)OF SUCCESS UNTIL SHE REACHES THE SKY. HERE IS HOW MY ADVICE WENT:

 

SAD BUT TRUE

 

Nana, showbiz is a very good and exciting industry with lots of good and exciting benefits however it is one of the most brutal industries I know. There are many very hushed stories of women getting abused by men in different positions of power. Some of these abused women are the admirable lot that are mostly envied and are at the pick(peak) of their perceived careers. These women occupy different lovely positions. Some are on radio and television; some are in the acting, arts, sports, etc. We see and listen to them week in and week out. They look very strong willed, powerful and beautiful yet deep in the inside they are dying a slow death…!

 

The truth is that some of them do qualify and deserve to be where they are but not through the opening of their legs though, only and only if they were not abused but given a fair chance and the necessary support. There is the other half that does not qualify at all, let alone deserve to be where they are. These are the ones that see nothing wrong in opening their legs to any man regardless, as long as it gets them what they want and takes them to the top. The painful truth is that this brutal trend is not only happening in the showbiz industry but cuts right across different industries. Many people know about this but because it is one of those unpalatable topics, many choose to live with this rather than preventing let alone talk about it…!

 

Nana, I wish you were old enough to fully comprehend what I am telling you especially the implications of it all. I want you to know the fact that as your father, I have been in business for the past two and half decades and thankfully, I do not fall within the group of these abusive men. I must confess though that, that temptation has crossed me a few times but I am grateful to be a father to girls because each time that temptation comes, I remember the fact that as a father, I would never be happy if any of my daughters are to be subjected to such a brutal treatment. So, thanks to God for keeping my sanity…!

 

I am sure there are many other fathers like me out there and there are also those fathers who care less regardless of fathering daughters themselves. There are some of these fathers who even go as far as abusing their own daughters, so those are obviously not even worried about anything. I therefore have a responsibility to share this with you, teach and prepare you for this brutal life we live. There are those men who already see you as a potential victim and it is important that you know this before you make your move towards conquering the world…!

 

Most of these men who do this are those we know and see daily coming up on media and in public saying all the right things that attracts many, yet they are lions in sheep skin. These men have many victims some of which are currently home and unemployed because they completely refused to open their legs for them. These are women that disapprove this brutal abuse, women who do not condone a continuation of a bad thing, women who choose to rather suffer than allow themselves to be violated. It is only fair for women to be allowed to choose to be intimate for whatever reason with men that they themselves choose and are comfortable with, not because they are being cornered because they need help from men…!

 

So Nana, be weary of men whom I call lions in sheep skin, men with crocodile smiles; men who will come to you offering help, friendship, comfort, etc. after which they will slowly but surely lure you into a booby trap of feeling bad enough to offer them something in return. These men are never upfront, honest and clear about their motives and intension; instead they are predators with perfected skills of ensuring that you will trust them with your life until you are at a point of no return. These men are mostly best positioned not only in positions of power but also best positioned in popular and envied industries. Some of these predators are all over government departments, private sector, etc. and they are in religious organizations too…!

 

Nana, you will hear many people complain about unemployment, some complain about being qualified and having experience, yet they are unable to find jobs. They apply and get turned down all the time because they are either not well connected or they refuse to open their legs for these powerful men. Some of these women were employed fairly before, until one of these powerful men got promoted to become their immediate bosses, only to start making sexual advances and when they refused, and then got subjected to unwarranted pressure and silly disciplinary processes that led to them either losing their jobs or opting to resign leading to their joblessness…!

 

It didn’t shock me recently when I got approached by a lady who was referred to me seeking employment. She did not hesitate to offer her body to me, as long as I was going to employ or ensure that she is financially secured. I can say whatever I want about this poor woman but the truth is, she is one of the many that have accepted this brutal trend as a norm and sees nothing wrong in it. When I declined her offer, her reaction was that of an irate, clearly showing that she preferred it that way rather than the proper way probably because she knew very well that she stood no chance if it was the proper way. At the back of my mind, I had a little voice that said; watch out KGM because she could easily be sent to take you down. There are many like her those who are also used to drag down men who do not subscribe to the abuse of women by men in positions of power and in any other way whatsoever…!

 

So Nana, I chose not only to be your father but your role model too. It is the most difficult but also the easiest of the tasks for fathers and men alike. I want you to learn from me how a man treats women and how a man should be treated by women. I want you to learn the good and bad of men and women relations from and through me. Be as open as you can, feel free to ask me anything you want to know. Surely I do not know everything, but rest assured, I will share with you the lot that I know. I want to do this for you my Little Princess because I want to empower you to be strong enough not to fall victim, let alone allow yourself to be abused like many victims of this brutal trend. I hope and pray to God that, my advice to you somehow spreads like a wild fire to the many other little Princesses like you especially those who do not have a father like you…!

 

This is extremely difficult but I am talking to you like this Nana, indirectly and directly sending a very strong message to men in positions of power, men who know that they are the ones I am referring to and those men who already see you and many Little Princesses as their next prey, I am warning these men to stop their brutal inhumane abuse now, not later, not tomorrow, but now. This is also an open challenge and the encouragement to men who are against this madness by men in positions of power, who uses(use) their power to abuse vulnerable women for sexual favours. This is also a loud call to all those women who see nothing wrong with this brutal trend, to stop it right here and now. This is also a message of hope and a promise to all the victims that I, together with those who share same sentiments, that we have started a war against this brutal and illegal inhumane trend, a war that we will not stop until we win…!

 

I have decided to pen this piece down because I know that apart from the few stories of the few victims that I know, this represents the many voices of other victims who are extremely scared to be known let alone voice out their pains and sorrows in this regard. Many are rightfully justified to keeping mum because if not, then they know for a fact that they stand to lose a lot because their careers are completely depended on these men in positions of power. Some of these women know for a fact that they do not deserve their positions and unlike the forced ones, they actually enjoy this brutal trend because it suits them best…!
